Um…Mom
While I drive my “Mom” mini-van around town I read bumper stickers and license plates. What people can say in 6 – 8 letters fascinates me!
Today I saw one that made me go … hmm. The license plate was: “Um Mom”. I wonder what led this mom to put this on her license plate.
As a Mom I’ve heard that phrase hundreds of times. At time “Um…Mom” is just used to get your attention. But sometimes it can mean something totally different. Maybe the question following is a difficult or scary question. “Is Grandma going to die?” Or maybe the phrase is used before a confession – “I hit another car.” No matter what I usually brace myself when my child starts with this phrase.
The mom with this license plate must find some humor in this statement. Like – “Um…Mom I cut my sister’s hair – on one side.” Or “Um…Mom I need you to take me to drum line practice at 6:00 and then to Boy Scouts at 7:00 and I need to go to the library to finish a report – tonight.” Or “Um…Mom Bobby flushed the fish…again…and it wasn’t dead yet.”
Whatever happens in her life – she seems to have a firm grasp on how to handle it – with humor! I like her attitude!
