My van is in a coma and on life support. Yes – I am a mom who drives a van and I love it. My husband and I were reminiscing about all the cars we have had in our married life. Bottom line – everytime I got pregnant I got a new (to us) car. We started with an S-10 pick-up – baby #1 came along so we went to a Tempo. The Tempo was around for 8 years before baby #2 called for a Saturn Wagon. Two years later and baby #3 got me my van (finally!).
I have had my van longer than any other car – 9-1/2 years. My children have grown up in that van. The first time that my oldest was able to sit in the front seat was a very good day – every child could have a seat to themselves!
I was really looking forward to the day that my middle daughter could take her turn in the front seat. The front seat is a special place – you get to share special “stuff” with mom. My oldest would share a lot from that seat!
My van is a true reflection of our family. You will find magnets of the current sports, bumper stickers showing our support of Girls Scouts and more. I truly feel like I lived in that van more than my house.
The trips/vacations that we have taken in the van are numerous (that probably accounts for why there is 222,000 miles on it!). The van has hauled family from the East coast to the Midwest so many times that it could do it with it’s eyes closed. It has also taken Daisies on their first field trips, Brownies on their first camping trips and Seniors on their last camping trips as Girl Scouts.
We have tried to buy the old girl some more time, but I think the end is near. I hope my next van won’t think me strange to bring in some of the trinkets from my old van and some of the traditions from our old van. I hope it understands, this is how we treat our van – as one of the family.
[...] love it! So I thought I would share and update everyone on my van. When I posted last about my van (Death of a Van) it was on it’s last leg. However, it is fine (sort of!). It gets us from point A to point B [...]
